The Corvette Z06 Is A True Supercar
0 in (381 mm) inch carbon ceramic rotors, originally designed as the Enzo Ferrari's front rotors. For all its race-inspired functionality, the Z06 is designed to be a daily drivable high-performance vehicle. On all models, steering has also been revised for improved feel.

Corvette Z06 Special Anniversay Issue

The ZR1 Can Compete With The World's Best

The Chevrolet Corvette Is A True Supercar

The number of available options on the new car is limited, in order to save as much weight as possible. Instead, the Corvette takes that power and refines it into a vehicle that does everything equally well.

It could have been a quirk in my test car, but it makes you wonder how touchy the dry sump oiling system is in day-to-day driving.

C6 Corvette - The 2008 Corvette
The 2008 Corvette is a carryover from 2007. Improved torsional rigidity and handling, and a reasonable price, make it the absolute bargain of performance sports cars (although its price has been rising over the past two years). Clearly, then, the changes have made a huge improvement in the Chevy's handling. This affordable muscle car also has a six-speed manual transmission and four-wheel disc antilock brakes. Speed is what the Z06 was designed for.
Chevy engineers tell us they sought to eliminate the little imperfections and potential dis-satisfiers that sports car customers formerly had to accept. For a major upgrade, though, it's necessary to order the 4LT package, which includes stitched two-tone leather on the instrument panel and doors. All models get interior trim enhancements-a wrapped center trim plate, new doorsill plates, and brushed aluminum accents are the biggies. The ZR1 Corvette is new but could you sit in one? The car includes larger wheels (18-inch in front, 19-inch in rear) topped by dramatic fender forms, with a crisp and tapered rear deck and fascia that support improved high-speed performance.

The standard 18-inch front wheels and 19-inch rear wheels feature a Sparkle Silver finish, with a Competition Gray version optional.

2008 Corvette Convertible - Not Just Another Ragtop
Whether you choose 2008 Corvette Coupe, 2008 Corvette Convertible or the awesome 505 hp Corvette Z06, you'll be driving one of the world's great sports cars. The performance is amazing, with the new 430 hp LS3 small-block V8 that's standard on Coupe and Convertible this year. Which is the better sports car? It’s too close to call, but the Corvettes price advantage, which even at $70,000 is thousands less than a comparably equipped Porsche 911 continues to give it an edge to the uncommitted buyer. If all the 2008 Corvette Convertible offered was acceleration, braking and handling equal to high-dollar exotics, it would still be the darling of car buffs everywhere. But a surprising level of utility comes along for the ride, too.
Optional on ’08 Coupe and 2008 Corvette Convertible models is a new, two-mode performance exhaust system. Similar in design and function to the system used on the Z06, the dual-mode exhaust uses vacuum-actuated outlet valves, which control engine noise during low-load operation, but open for maximum performance during high-load operation. Exhaust-valve lift remains unchanged from the LS2. The camshaft timing was revised to optimize performance with the higher-lift intake cam profile.
Add a folding roof to the equation and the cool factor jumps up by a multiple of eight. Added to this power are subtle styling features that put this Victory Red Corvette convertible on an even faster track. Add on the Z06 inspired dual-mode exhaust, and the new engine delivers an even rosier 436 horsepower.

The dry-sump oil system on the 2008 Corvette Z06 LS7 engine prevents oil starvation on high-g corners or under heavy braking. It could have been a quirk in my test car, but it makes you wonder how touchy the dry sump oiling system is in day-to-day driving. Ethanol production has grown tremendously during the last three decades and has allowed the country to practically wean itself completely from imported oil.
The transmission includes a pump that sends transmission fluid to the front radiator for cooling. Upon its return, the fluid removes additional heat from the differential lube before returning to the transmission. It's still the only transmission available and a unique gearbox to the Z06.

E85 Z06 - Corvette Goes Green
This car better be faster than a regular Z06–and I would expect that it would be with an extra 95bhp–because it’s pretty flawed as a concept. Does GM honestly expect people to believe that their monstrous engines are “green” because they burn E85? Available in coupe and convertible versions, each commemorative edition car will be personally signed and numbered by Emerson Fittipaldi, who will also drive the E85 Z06 concept at Indy 500.
Engineers have bumped power up to 542hp (389kW) by adding a sports air-filter, custom exhaust manifolds, steel bed catalysts and remapped the engines ECU. The sprint time from 0-100km/h is reduced to about 3.7 seconds, while maximum speed is increased to about 327 km/h. Engine oil is usually carried in a deep pan that hangs on the bottom of the engine, but a dry-sump system uses a shallow pan and an external oil reservoir. Oil capacity is eight quarts for the Z06 versus 5.5 for the base car.
Ethanol is beneficial because it is environment-friendly, bio-degradable, non-toxic, water soluble and renewable. Ethanol does not harm drinking water resources. Ethanol is a truly unique fuel for its impacts on the environmental, engine performance and personal finances. Of the commonly available fuels, including gasoline, diesel and natural gas, it is the only one eligible for tax rebates. Ethanol also combusts at a lower temperature than gasoline, which means the engine, runs cooler. Thus, a smaller radiator and fan can be used, which will significantly reduce a vehicle's weight.
Pace car replicas will be available in both coupe and convertible models, and come standard with the 'Vette's 3LT trim level, Z51 performance package and a dual-mode exhaust. The usual six-speed manual and automatic are both available, but pricing for the replicas and their options won't be revealed until a later date. Pace car numero uno is a customized Chevrolet Corvette Z06 concept that runs on E85 ethanol and will be driven during the race's pace lap by two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Emerson Fittipaldi. The second pace car will be the Corvette 30th Anniversary Pace Car featuring a black exterior with silver graphics honoring the 1978 model - no word yet on who'll be driving that one.

Looks wise, the Corvette E85 Z06 Concept Pace Car has a unique Gold Rush Green color-shifting paint scheme that changes between hues of green and gold when viewed from different angles and in different light. A checkered flag pattern is also a part of the paint job.
This the first “green” car to lead off the Indy 500 race in the history of the sport. The car that gets the task of doing so is the new Chevrolet Corvette E85 Z06 sports car.
